Jelle Hermans - Horses
Jelle Hermans is a third-year film maker at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. In his work he tries to release the narration and to seek in diverse places for phenomena that can be approached in other ways than we are used to see.
Horses is a work about presence. Presence of the author and presence of the horse. Just the man and the beast felt in image. A film about a group of mistreated horses, filmed at night, with only artificial light.
Viktor Dill - Schuld sind Alle
Viktor Auguste Dill was born in 1987 in West-Berlin out of a French mother and German father. He obtained a film science bachelor in Vienna (Austria). Since 2011 he has been studying analogue film and cinema and audiovisual archives. He quickly became a member of the analogue film collective Labor Berlin e.V. He is currently studying Experimental Film and Arts and Media at the University of Arts Berlin (UdK).
Schuld sind Alle is a poetic reflection on the invalids' cemetery in Berlin, where not only so called 'war heroes' from different times are buried, but also where the wall was built to separate the GDR from West-Berlin. At this site the first refugee who wanted to cross the border from East to West was shot by a GDR-soldier. That makes the film some kind of requiem.
Christine Lucy Latimer - Lines Postfixal
Christine Lucy Latimer is an avant-garde filmmaker and photographer. Her work of the past decade has been featured across 5 continents in over 200 film festivals and gallery exhibitions. She is currently living and working in Toronto, Canada. Her work explores the aesthetic and structural potential of antiquated and historic moving image forms. Fascinated by film obsolescence, the archive and changing notions of preservation, her time-based works hybridize video and film, analog and digital in a heteroclitic blending of technologies.
She is preoccupied with the interminable reinvention of moving image systems, and the remnant processes and artifacts left in the wake of each new innovation. Her work aims not only to playfully question and reframe cinematic tropes, but to encourage dialogue surrounding the continuing life of film and analog imaging tools in contemporary visual arts.
It is her hope that moving image practitioners can define new ways of working with discarded, inexpensive consumer technologies, and expand our understanding of what is possible in time-based practice.
Lines Postfixal departs from two found companion 16mm film prints (salvaged from the garbage at the National Film Board of Canada) that are simultaneously reunited in a coda to their original composition. The image is worked in multiple generations through betamax and vhs tape decks to weave threads of video artifact into the celluloid fabric.
Kelly Gallagher - Pearl Pistols
Kelly Gallagher is an experimental animator and filmmaker interested in handcrafted filmmaking and exploring the ways in which handmade animations make labor visible. Her theoretical work explores the radical political possibilities of experimental animation, and the ways in which animation can be utilized to visualize stories of resistance. Her films have been screened worldwide at film festivals, galleries, and museums including: Ann Arbor Film Festival, Experiments in Cinema, London ICA Artists' Film Biennial, Cinema Festival of Experimental Film in Paris, Alternative Film/Video Festival Belgrade, Berlin Mobile Kino, and the Lucca Film Festival. She is the recipient of the 2014 Helen Hill Award from Indie Grits and the 2015 Popular Jury Prize at Fronteira Film Festival. She currently resides in Ohio, where she is an Assistant Professor of Media Arts at Antioch College.
Pearl Pistols can best be described as a glitter bombed, pistol-whipping, animated, resurrection of a speech by the exuberant and powerful civil rights revolutionary Queen Mother Moore.
Nazlı Dinçel - Her Silent Seaming
Nazlı Dinçel's work reflects on experiences of disruption. She records the body in context with arousal, immigration, dislocation and desire in juxtaposition with the medium's material: texture, color and the passing of emulsion. Her use of text as image, language and sound attempts the failure of memory and her own displacement within a western society.
Selected exhibitions include Artist Television Access, Images Film Festival, Northwest Film Forum, Chicago Underground Film Festival, FLEXFEST, Experiments In Cinema, Tama Art University, Louis B James Gallery and Millennium Film Workshop. She has won Best Essay Film at FlexFest 2015 and Best Experimental Film at Chicago Underground Film Festival in 2015.
Her Silent Seaming is a transcription of what she has been told during intimate experiences while separating from her husband. Sections consist of destroyed originals from Leafless (2011), motifs of the "feminine" alluding to Jack Smith's Flaming Creatures (1963) and of reconstruction of a pomegranate. These decorative objects are revalued through a controlled act of cutting, with an allusion to synchronization. Obscured images clear out while the hand scratched text becomes harder to read with each section. Direct sound of cuts and hand processing are composed of 26 frame shots. Unsynced, it reveals a hearing of past images, as an act of translation.
Mit Borrás- Man Facing a Wall
Mit Borrás (1982) is a Spanish artist (Media art, Installation). He graduated in Fine Arts in 2005 Madrid (Spain), and completed his studies in Media Art in Enschede, The Netherlands. In 2010 Borrás moved to Berlin and opened a Project space, Fünf Galerie. His work as an artist consists of a very intense search of new proposals, his work as cultural manager and curator has led him to direct an international Video Art Festival in Madrid (Optica Festival), being a member of the Department for Culture of the Institute Cervantes in Berlin and exhibit internationally. In the works of Mit Borrás principally underlie a political-social component. He actually lives and works in Berlin and Madrid.
Man Facing a Wall is literally about a man, facing a wall, and is part of the series Video Games, actions inside a game. Most of his works are fundamentally installations and new media art. In the works underlies a political-social component that has an undertone message behind simulations and alternatives that the artist proposes. It might be said that his works are imprisoned of this epoch we are living in, although the topics that he tackles accompany the human being since he decided to live in society.
He feels attracted of what is happening and feels free to reproduce the rigid environment which surrounds him and his own immobility. To sit down and look at this planned accident that western society means is always a stimulus and the main motor of his work. There is a manifest interest in all that is decadent and despicable.

Asha Tamirisa - OX
Asha Tamirisa (1988) is often found working with some combination of sound, video, sculpture and movement. Her work has been presented at venues such as the ICA Boston, UnionDocs (NYC), The Tank (NYC), Spectrum (NYC), I-Park Foundation (CT), WomanMade Gallery (Chicago), and The Santa Fe Complex, and has been programmed on series and festivals such as Magic Lantern Cinema (PVD/NYC), the Drone Cinema Film Fest (NL), Altered States Film Festival (UK), Opensound (Boston), OPENSIGNAL (Providence), sonic.focus (Brown University) Non-Event (Boston), Akron Film+Pixel, Lion vs. Gorilla (Chicago), and Substructure (Boston). She has released music on Private Chronology and has an upcoming release on Pan Y Rosas.
She is a founding member of OPENSIGNAL, a group of artists concerned with the state of gender and race within electronic / computer based art practices. She graduated from Oberlin College and is currently a doctoral student in the Multimedia and Electronic Music Experiments (MEME) program at Brown University (Providence - US).
OX comes out of a sonic and visual pulse and includes analog and digital synthesis, sampled and digitally processed film.

Olga Guse - The Three Spirits
Olga Guse (1981) was born in the city of Saratov, Russia. She graduated in Art History at the University of Saratov and then moved to Germany where she lives and works. In 2015 she became director of the International Experimental Animation Festival BEAR in Dresden, Germany.
Many of her animated films participated at different international art and film festivals, such as: XXVII Festival Les Instants Vidéo (FR); 17th International Art Exhibition NordArt (DE); 8th The Digital Graffiti at Alys Beach Festival (USA); 8,9th OSTRALE international panorama exhibitions of con- temporary arts in Europe (DE); 7th INCUBARTE International Art Festival (ES), Aurora Arts Festival in Dallas (USA).

Zachary Epcar - Under the Heat Lamp an Opening
Zachary Epcar (1987) is a film and video maker currently based in Oakland, California. His work has been shown at the New York Film Festival - Projections, Ann Arbor Film Festival, San Francisco Cinematheque's Crossroads, Les Rencontres Internationales Paris, Images Festival, the Rotterdam Film Festival, Edinburgh, and San Francisco International Film Festivals.
The film provides an expanded view of the lunch crowd at an open-air restaurant, from a bird's-eye of the exterior to the depths of the interior. This work was the jury's favorite submission.
